The US annexes all of Mexico in 1848

But the US could secure a better border with Mexico in the process, no? :

Life in the US would be much better than in American Mexico, no?

As for the infrastructure, railroads and whatnot connecting Mexico to the rest of the US could be built in the late 19th century.

How much larger do you think that the Western US's population is going to be in the early 20th century in this scenario?
Or they could just do that at the start, rather than spend years on brutal occupation.

They may not feel the same early on.

Yes, but it could take decades to build, especially in a warzone.

Probably about the same.

Coloureds or coloured people. Quite a distinct and numerous population.
Descended from Dutch settlers (in the male line) and local South African women (in the female line), correct?

Yes, they absolutely could if they wanted to limit their gains and avoid annexing all of Mexico.

They may not feel the same early on.
Well, when do you think this will become clear for them?

Yes, but it could take decades to build, especially in a warzone.
It's going to be a war zone for, what, 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? More than that?

Probably about the same.
OK.

They may never feel life in America is better.
Could be an ongoing insurgency for over a century depending on how things go. More likely it would go on 5-10 years before America just quits.

That's not how Mexicans in America feel in real life. Else, there'd be a large separatist movement among them.

That would just be a waste of US lives and money, though.

This is 150 years later, cultures didn't mix as easily back then.
Yes it would be a waste. Throwing good money after bad is foolishness.

Well, some Mexicans fled north to the US as early as the 1910s.

Agreed. Just like the French wars in Algeria.

BTW, can you please respond to my new Tsar Nicholas II in 1893 thread?

Even if possible it would all fall apart come US civil war (which itself might happen sooner). I wonder how European governments would have reacted, especially given Maximilian's adventures in Mexico during the '60s. Let's not forget that the whole Mexican adventure started from a rebellion, so most likely those rebellions would continue against US rule.

Apparently the female lines are primarily Khoisan, and the male lines are primarily Bantu (Xhosa, Zulu), West-European (Dutch, British, Irish), South and South East Asian (India, Indonesia), in that order. (different coloured populations have different ratios).
