Keep in mind that this is very much a western phenomenon. Priests (but not monks or bishops) were permitted to marry in orthodox Byzantium.

Byzantium was mentioned. There are two distinct groups of orthodox priests - the white (married) clergy and the black (monastic) clergy. The monastic or black clergy are unmarried ergo celibate. The parochial or white clergy may choose to be celibate or married, but before the ordination. According to orthodox canon one may not marry after ordination.
