Were the founding fathers libertarian?

I think Milton Friedman is a more moderate version of Murray Rothbard anarchist's view, and both of them were not for laissez-faire capitalism which is a XIX century thing; as for the thread, I personally think it's difficult to compare late XVIII century thinkers and politicians with XX century standards, the philosophical background of people like Jefferson and Paine was a lot different, and there were also huge differences inside the founding father's circle (like the Hamilton vs Jefferson thing). Surely we can categorize them as classic liberals, but to me it seems like putting Saint-Simon and Rosa Luxembourg in the same family.
