After so many hangings that took place in the wild west, what did they do with the bodies?
Well... they'd bury them. :)

Unless they were a famous outlaw, then they'd hang them (or shoot them), and then pose their corpse for some photographs...

(Reuben Burrows on display)

Maybe get some photos of themselves and the corpse, for their scrap books...

(Jesse James and "friends"... lol)

Out East (if you were a Quaker outlaw) after you were killed, you'd be buried outside of the cemetery walls, like the Doan Boys were...

In Australia those judicial executed like he Bush ranger Ned Kelly were buried in unmarked graves at the prision. Thay had a area wher ethey buried teh bodies and just buried them sort randomly and left at that. Do Not know the start or end date of the practice. At this time a death mask was normally done as well.

Hmmm... was he the one that made himself a suit of armor?

You can still see the graves of most of the famous outlaws in the American West... Billy the Kid, Jesse James, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Burrow (they even have a roadside memorial where they were shot while driving)...

Those are always fun to look at...

In Maine (wild, perhaps, but in the east), the families were offered the bodies. If the families declined, the dead were buried in a small cemetery on the grounds of the prison. Although the Thomaston Prison has been moved to the next town, the cemetery is still maintained and kept neat. I have been there several times to bring flowers to one of the graves.

Do you really think that there was a lot more hangings in the west than in the East . Population was much smaller in the "wild west " . I am sure there were hangings in the East !
Too many Western Movies perhaps !
