What historical story is so incredible it would seem unrealistic in a movie?

San Antonio, Tx
A semi-literate reality TV show host and property developer with ties to the mafia and the Kremlin runs for US president. He brags about sexually assaulting women, refuses to relinquish control over his privately owned companies, bribes a porn star to keep quiet about an affair, uses a charity to fund his election campaign, loses the popular vote by three million, but still gets elected. While in office he refuses to read memos and reports, conducts domestic policy via Twitter, demands that his family members are all granted top security clearance, and closes down the government for an unprecedented period of time over funding for a fence.
Oh for heave’s sake, nobody in their right mind would never believe a story like that!

I love finding those ridiculous, or heroic, dramatic, etc. stories in history that are so perfect you'd find it hard to believe if you first encountered it in a movie. Any to share?
Most of Europe falling under the control of a failed painter (his name rhymes with Rudolf Titler) and then half of Europe falling under the control of a former bank robber (his name rhymes with Broseph Fallin).
