perhaps darius is a persian named which survived, but its inaccurate to assume, would have been named after darius king, since the guy was only known after the europeans deciphered the inscriptions.

what about shikoh?
Bernier elsewhere says:

I am no longer incredulous, or even astonished, when I read of the exploits of the ten thousand Greeks, or of the achievements of the fifty thousand Macedonians under Alexander, though opposed to six or seven hundred thousand men ; if, indeed, it be true that the armies of Darius amounted to so many, and that the servants, and various other persons employed to procure provisions, were not comprehended in this number.

So, he knew of Darius as a Persian king. Dara Shikoh means "equal of Darius", so Shikoh might mean equal.

Ofcourse the Europeans knew Darius. They could read Greek remember? And Darius had tried invading Greece. Marathon was one of their most famous battles.

i dont think so, darius probably was not known by persians before the british deciphered the cunieform inscription hence not known by the mughals.

regards
The name "Dara" is mentioned in the Shahnameh, the most famous epic of Islamic Iran.
