Who built the Temples of Kiramchi ??

Feb 2014
KIRAMCHI is a small village in Udhampur district of Jammu & Kashmir. There is a complex of five temples and two small shrines.

Historical Background: As per archaeologists these temples were built somewhere between 8th and 12th century AD, and temple 4 of this complex stands on earlier brick structure that is date-able to post-Gupta period. However nothing is known as who build these temples exactly.

This place in in past it was the halting place on Jammu-Kashmir trade route through Banihal.

According to legendary accounts, Kichaka (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kichaka) laid the foudation of this place.

As per another tradition Kiramchi was the capital of the successors of Daya Karan, grandson of legendary Jambu Lochan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jambu_Lochan)

Architecturally these temples belongs to Nagara North Indian style of architecture with little Kashmiri temple architectural elements.

When I checked the history of Jammu & Kashmir from 8th and 12th century AD, only name that comes to the mind is Utpalas and King Shankaravarman who expanded his empire from Kashmir towards Trigarta (modern Kangra Valley).

☞ Please share if there is any information about the builders of these temples. Can we assign them to Utpalas ?
