Polish history is well studied at academic level in Scotland because of the ancient ties between both peoples going back to mediaeval times.
No suprise then that Scots-Polish merchant Alexander Chalmers was four times the Mayor of Warsaw between 1695-1714.
When walking in the Papal apartements in the Vatican back in 2oo4 I was not suprised to see a wall tapestry of Polish King Jan Sobieski who halted the Moslem hordes at Vienna thus saving the Papacy..
