Why is Liberia poor if it was never colonized?

The Free Black Americans enslaved as many of the natives as they could in Liberia. They adapted the same social system they were familiar with in the US. The native Liberians were not educated, there was no way to advance in society in Liberia.

The city of Shenzhen have a population of 15Million
With GDP percapita of $ 44 ,000 which is even higher than France or UK.
You are comparing two different things (cities with countries):

Greater London is above 70,000$, Ile de France is almost 70,000.

Heck, Praha and Bratislava are above 70,000$ (I admit I never thought at those two!)

Some people try to explain Africa's poverty by saying it's because European countries oppressed them and stole their resources. Well, Liberia has been an independent country for longer than countries like Canada, Germany, Italy, Australia, New Zealand and many other developed countries(some were colonized, others not). What can you say about this then? It's so easy to blame everything on Europeans...

The same could be said about Ethiopia although it was conquered by the Italians but regained their independence quickly
Liberia was litterally a colony one that recived litterally no support amd was abandoned

This has nothing to do with middle eastern history

Japan is better example.

By second half of 19th century it was still a feudal country and backwater compared to Europe. All of that, despite not having any civil wars or international/colonial conflicts since 1600.

People need to study historical processes in depth and not just try to find simplest answer to all the issues. That is why ,, history '' as a subject is so bad in schools and universities nowadays.

Liberia is poor since even though it was never a colony in the formal sense, it never had the chance to build up some infrastructure.

I think what happened was that the returning slaves kind of created a class structure between themselves and the native Africans. Liberia had a president lately called Charles Taylor. This is no native African name, and must have come from a returned slave (or he had an ancestor who was such). This in part caused their civil wars, and it's essentially the same in neighbouring Sierra Leone.

it's all pretty retarded since a returned slave was originally descended from Africa. To lord it over some native African, because one's ancestors got captured and shpped to America and the native Africans didn't, and because one has a British-origin name, and not a Mende/Mandinka one, is pretty odd.
