Also, in respect to time period that this stuff was written and passed on by communication incest was less frowned upon as it is today. I mean you have kings and queens in other parts of the world marrying people within their families to keep the blood line pure and keep the royal bloodline within the family.

This reached pure horror within the Spanish royal family
the Hapsburg were master at dynastic consolidation by inter family matrimony
the last was Charles II , the list of his deformities read like a medical encyclopedia and gave him the cognomen "the bewitched "
"short, lame, epileptic, senile and completely bald before 35, always on the verge of death but repeatedly baffling Christendom by continuing to live."
he had the Hapsburg jaw to such an extend that his lower jaw grossly overreached , making him unable to chew and constantly salivating

i feel both sad and amusing to read that sentence.

Pretty difficult to avoid incest when the vast majority of the gods are descended from Gaia, and in just two generations. Add to the fact that the Titans are defeated and imprisoned (apart from a few), and you are pretty much forced to look at the siblings or their children. Although Zeus did bang his aunts (at least Themis and Metis), too.

Even if you look at nymphs, they are usually attributed as children of the titans as well, so they would be cousins to the Olympian gods, from brother-sister Titan incest. Still pretty close. (Or, alternatively, born from Gaia, making them aunts, too, not much better.)

I like Greek mythology because it covers all human aspects, also most dirty and negative ones by our christian standards.
The Christian standard would include the Old Testament Adam and Eve. It's clear that their offspring had to intermarry. The Bible is telling us humanity was born in incest.
