But they’re not a panacea. If the US goes, that’s the end of big handouts to Israel without which it can’t afford much of its current defense establishment. Also the small size of Israel compared to Russia and other states makes it particularly vulnerable to nuking. I’m not saying Russia would launch an unprovoked nuke attack just effectively deter Israel.
Israel's PPP GDP per capita is almost the same as that of Britain and France. Surely Britain and France are not spending beyond their means on their militaries?

But if Israel has no superpower backup and a major conventional attack threatens to destroy a vast Russian investment in its clients, then the attack could incur a nuclear response.
Why? The Soviets backed. Arab forces at least 3 times in the past and had their derrieres handed to them each time. Tell me again what the definition of insanity is again ?

It doesn’t need to be a superpower to be able to nuke Israel.

Lol with the exception of the US no nation of much importance would risk its neck for Israel. The far greater geopolitical and economic importance if Arab states and Iran would almost certainly ensure than Europe, India, China etc would either side with the Arabs or stay out of a fight.

Malarkey.

The US gives Israel about $3.8 billion per year. That's nothing to shake a stick at, but if they lost that money it wouldn't be the end of the world. And their military spending likely wouldn't suffer, it would we Israeli social programs and services that would take the hit.

Syria?[.quote]

Syria borders Russia-friendly Iran, as well as being close to a number of former Soviet republics. It is not far from Russia's land borders.

[quote[Vietnam?
No. There were anti-Chinese riots in Vietnam not long ago. There is no residual hatred of the Japanese. That's reserved for the US, amongst some people.
