Yeah, that Old Testament religion is a real hoot. Its almost as funny as that Johnny-Come-Lately Islam!
The depiction you posted of the incident is wayyyy off in accuracy because it is based on a mistranslation of a word!

just sitting here
Then please explain, it seems pretty comprehensible to me and also pretty funny (verging on silly).

No worries John.... i was not offended in any way ... it's just you asked for an explanation , and yes you are right , context is important .

That's why it is essential to read or seek relevant context before one pronounces something silly.

Although it is "funny" only in the sense that it is bizarre and incomprehensible, my favorite is when the ten soldiers from the opposing armies paired off and killed each other. Were they so starved for entertainment back then?

(Apologies: i'm not at home to look it up and can't remember exactly where this incident is found, though i believe it is in Jeremiah.)

And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.
And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?
And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.
Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?
Do I lack mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?

1 Sam 21:10-15.
Do I lack mad men? I don't have enough crazies around here, you want to import some?

1 Samuel 18:25
And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

I always thought when Saul commanded David to get the foreskins of 100 philistines.

What would the poor philistines think when they found their dead and realised they'd been circumcised! I know I'd be getting out of there quick smart!

"He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord."(Deuteronomy 23:1)

First of all, yes, the King James Bible actually calls them "stones." You are now aware of the fact that the "stones" euphemism is a Biblical reference.

Also, God hates people with testicular cancer, apparently.
