Waterloo is a great movie. I like Christopher Plummer as Wellington.

For me it's WW1- Paths of Glory, WW11- Schindler's List, Ancient epic- Ben Hur, Medieval- The Lion in Winter, Tudor- A Man for all Seasons and anything accuratly portraying Elizabeth 1, Georgian- The Madness of King George. Also loved the BBC Robin Hood with Jonas Armstrong, fact no, fun yes, and you cant beat Keith Allan as the Sheriff of Nottingham-'novice novices how novel' still makes me laugh.

ohh without a doubt Lawrence of Arabia which is also coincedentally one of the best movies ever too

Yep, that is the first movie that I saw that got me interested in history. They can't (afford to) make them like that anymore!
The best movie ever made... yes, I vote that too.
If you haven't seen it before and watch it from a DVD, you likely won't get the same effect. This is one movie that has to be seen on the screen to have its magic work.

I'd have to go with Saving Private Ryan for my favourite historical movie and WW2 movie at the same time.

I believe the movie "Mongol" deserves a mentioning, one of the few movies for Ghengis Khan and a great movie too, look at the trailer - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BfPgF4DF-Q&feature=fvw"]YouTube - Mongol, Theatrical Full Trailer[/ame]

Waterloo, hands down is the greatest historical film. They got 16,000 soviet troops, and dressed them up in fusilier, grenadier, chasseur, artilleryman, highland, and various cavalry uniforms. Not only that, but they trained them in the time period's tactics and drills.

I really like watching Waterloo, but even as a fan of it I think it is dull.

Maybe its just that they didn't put a epic spin on things, but I didn't think the movie was dull.

The Pianist - a very strong movie about moments from our past that we cannot repeat never again.
