Heirs of the Vasa dynasty Part Three, Heirs of King Erik XIV.

In Post number 11 in this thread I wrote that there were no legitimate line descendants of King Erik XIV Vasa or King Johann III Vasa but they did have illegitimate children that might have descendants to this day.

Gustaf Eriksson Vasa (1496-1560) made himself regent of Sweden in 1521 and King Gustaf I in 1523. Father of:

1. King Erik XIV (1533-1577) oldest son. He had several illegitimate children and finally married the low born Karin Mansdotter. He was deposed in 1568 and probably poisoned in 1577. Erik XIV Gustafsson, King of Sweden 1560-1568 : Genealogics Father of:

2. Prince Gustav of Sweden (1528-1607. Legitimated when his parents were married and present at the marriage and coronation. Died in Russia in 1607. Gustaf Vasa: Genealogics No known children. Brother of:

3. Princess Sigrid of Sweden (1566-1633). Present at the wedding and coronation of her parents. Married first 1597 Hendrik Klasson Tott (d. 1603).Sigrid Vasa: Genealogics Mother of:

a. Virginia Eriksdotter (1559-1633), oldest illegitimate daughter of King Erik XIV (1533-1577) and Agda Petterintytar. Married Hakon Knutsson Hand (d. 1595/96). Virginia Eriksdotter: Genealogics Mother of:

b. Karin Hakonsodtter Hand (b. c. 1587). Married Johann Henriksson Rytter, 1st Lord of Levene (1585-1644) Karin Håkonsdotter Hand: Genealogics Mother of:

c. Sofia Rytter (d. 1668) Possibly the older daughter. Married Axel Spens, 1st Baron of Orreholmen (c. 1626-1656) Sofia Rytter: Genealogics Mother of:

6. Count Jakob Spens (1656-1721) only son. Sofia Rytter: Genealogics No children. Brother of:

7. Virginia Spens (1655-1722) Marrried Baron Henning Adolf Kruuse of Verchou (1654-1712) http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00498928&tree=LEO, Mother of:

However, Sofia Rytter (d. 1668) might not be the older daughter of her mother, which means that the heir of her sister could be the heir of King Erik XIV.

Heir of the Dynasty of Stenkil, Part Three, Heirs of Ingrid Ragnvaldsdotter.

King Inge the Elder of Sweden, son of King Stenkil, had four daughters who married. Their heirs were traced in posts numbers 18 and 19 in this thread. The heirs of those daughters would be the rightful heirs of the Dynasty of Stenkil, except for the heirs of their brother Ragnvald, which would have the most senior claim. Heir of the Dynasty of Stenkil, Part Four, Heirs of Ingrid Ragnvaldsdotter continued.

Continued from posts 42 & 43.

In those posts the heirs of the House of Stenkil have been traced through Ingrid Ragnvaldsotter to Gabriel Pentinpoika Oxenstierna, 1st Count of Korsholma & Vaasa (1586-1656) and on down to Count Karl Stellan Gabriel Morner, (1896-1972). And there I ran into troubles because my online sources about the Morner family are a bit too confusing and contradictory for me to say with any confidence who the present heir of the Morner family, and thus of the House of Stenkil, actually is.

But do not doubt that there are present descendants of the Stenkil Dynasty. In this post I trace another and less senior line of descent from descent from Gabriel Pentinpoika Oxenstierna, 1st Count of Korsholma & Vaasa (1586-1656) down to the present.

25. Gabriel Pentinpoika Oxenstierna, 1st Count of Korsholma & Vaasa (1586-1656) Gabriel Pentinpoika 'Oxenstierna', 1.Count of Korsholma & Vaasa : Genealogics Father of:

26. Anna, Countess Oxenstierna (1620-1690) Anna, Grevinna Oxenstierna af Korsholm och Wasa : Genealogics Married Christoph Delphicus, Burgrave and Count of Dohna (1628-1668). Mother of:

27. Amalia Louis, Burgravine & Countess of of Dohna (1661-1724), Amalie Louise, Burggräfin und Gräfin zu Dohna : Genealogics married Alexander, Burgrave & Count of Dohna-Schlobitten (1661-1728) Mother of:

28. Albrecht Christoph, Burgrave & Count of Dohna-Schlobitten & Listenau (1698-1752) Albrecht Christoph, Burggraf und Graf zu Dohna-Schlobitten und Leistenau : Genealogics Father of:

29. Frederike, Burgravine & Countess of of Dohna-Schlobitten & Listenau (1738-86) Friederike, Burggräfin und Gräfin zu Dohna-Schlobitten und Leistenau : Genealogics who married Karl Anton Ernst, Prince of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck (1727–1759) Carl Anton, Prinz zu Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck : Genealogics, and their only child was:

30. Duke Friedrich Karl Ludwig of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck (1757-1816) Friedrich Karl Ludwig, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck - Friedrich, Herzog von Holstein Sonderburg-Beck 1775-1816 : Genealogics whose only son and heir was:

31. Duke Friedrich Wilhelm of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg (1785-1831) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedrich_Wilhelm,_Duke_of_Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg - Wilhelm, Herzog von Schleswig-Holstein Sonderburg-Glücksburg : Genealogics whose oldest son and heir was:

32. Duke Karl of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg (1813-1878) older brother of King Christian IX of Denmark. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl,_Duke_of_Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg - Karl, Herzog von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg : Genealogics No children. Brother of:

33. Duke Friedrich of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg (1814-85) older brother of King Christian IX of Denmark. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedrich,_Duke_of_Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg - Friedrich, Herzog von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg : Genealogics Father of:

34. Duke Friedrich Ferdinand of Schleswig-Holstein (1855-1934) Friedrich Ferdinand, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein - Wikipedia - Friedrich Ferdinand, Herzog von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg : Genealogics Father of:

35. Duke Wilhelm Friedrich of Schleswig-Holstein (1891-1965) Wilhelm Friedrich, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein - Wikipedia - Friedrich, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg : Genealogics Father of:

36. Duke Peter of Schleswig-Holstein (1922-80) 3rd but oldest surviving son. Peter, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein - Wikipedia - Friedrich, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg : Genealogics Father of:

37. Prince Christoph of Schleswig-Holstein (born 1949). Christoph, Herzog von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg : Genealogics Father of:

Friedrich Ferdinand, Prince of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg (b. 1985) Oldest son. Friedrich Ferdinand, Prinz von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg : Genealogics

Prince Christoph of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg (born 1949) is the heir of Karl Anton Ernst, Prince of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck (1727-59) and his wife Frederike, Burgravine & Countess of of Dohna-Schlobitten & Listenau (1738-86).

And Frederike might have been the heir of her father Albrecht Christoph, Burgrave & Count of Dohna-Schlobitten & Listenau (1698-1752), since her brother Alexander Ferdinand Burgrave & Count of of Dohna-Schlobitten & Listenau (1734-1775) reportedly didn't have any children.

Albrecht Christoph, Burgrave & Count of Dohna-Schlobitten & Listenau (1698-1752) was the oldest son and heir of his parents Amalia Louis, Burgravine & Countess of of Dohna (1661-1724) and Alexander, Burgrave & Count of Dohna-Schlobitten (1661-1728).

But Amalia Louis, Burgravine & Countess of of Dohna (1661-1724), had a brother, Freiderich Christian, Burgrave and Count of Dohna-Carwinden (1664-1727) Friedrich Christoph, Burggraf und Graf zu Dohna-Carwinden : Genealogics who has many descendants down to the present and so her descendants are not the heirs of her parents, Anna, Countess Oxenstierna (1620-1690) and Christoph Delphicus, Burgrave and Count of Dohna (1628-1668).

Furthermore, Anna, Countess Oxenstierna (1620-1690) was not the heir of her father Gabriel Pentinpoika Oxenstierna, 1st Count of Korsholma & Vaasa (1586-1656), since she had two brothers who married and had many generations of descendants, as well as at least one older sister who married and had many generations of descendants.

But this line of descent from Gabriel Pentinpoika Oxenstierna, 1st Count of Korsholma & Vaasa (1586-1656) is interesting because many of the royal and noble families of Europe are descended from people in this line of descent, including some or all of the members of the Royal families of Denmark, Greece, Norway, Sweden, the UK, Romania, and Russia.

Post number 6 on page 1 of this thread ends with:

The other daughters of King Valdemar never married. So unless there are any traceable legitimate present descendants of Erik Valdemarsson (1271/72-1330), or unless there are any traceable legitimate present descendants of Anna of Oldenburg (d.1438) and Count Otto III of Waldeck (d. 1458/590, or unlessf there are any traceable legitimate present descendants of the lords and counts of Diepholz descended from Kunigunde of Oldenburg, there are only three potential genealogical heirs of King Valdemar of Sweden, Guillaume Prince of Windsch-Graetz (born 1950). (Born 1950), George Duke of Hohenberg (born 1929), and Karl von Habsburg (born 1961).

And now in this post we see that there are traceable legitimate present descendants of the lords and counts of Diepholz descended from Kunigunde of Oldenburg, and so Guillaume Prince of Windsch-Graetz (born 1950), George Duke of Hohenberg (born 1929), and Karl von Habsburg (born 1961) are not the heirs of King Valdemar of Sweden. But considering how many other kings they are the genealogical heirs of, I don't think they will mind.

Heir of the Dynasty of Stenkil, Part Five, Heirs of Ingrid Ragnvaldsdotter.

In posts numbers 42 and 43 of this thread the heirs of the Stenkil dynasty were traced down to:

35. Count Karl Stellan Gabriel Morner, (b. 1896) Greve Karl Stellan Gabriel Mörner: Genealogics (1896-1972) No children listed. Carl Stellan Gabriel Mörner af Morlanda .

And there I stopped since different websites offered confusing and perhaps contradictory information about his relatives.

Here is the closest line of heirs I can find using data in the Genealogics website.

r. Count Carl Gabriel Morner (1737-1738) Greve Carl Gabriel Mörner: Genealogics son of Count Adolf Morner (1705-1766) and his wife Baroness Agneta Christina Ribbing (1715-1766) Baroness Agneta Kristina Ribbing: Genealogics sister of # 30. Father of:

36. Count Adolf ....n Morner (d. 1838) Greve Adolf Göran Mörner: Genealogics Father of:

s. Count Oskar Morner (1816-1888) the probably younger brother of # 32. greve Oskar Mörner, heir of Herrborum : Genealogics Father of:

t. Count Adolf Nils Carl Morner (1849-1926) greve Nils Mörner: Genealogics Father of:

37. Countess Louisa Cecillia Margareta Morner, heiress of Herrborum Castle (1879-1978) Married Count Wilfred Carl Magnus Benvenuto Stenbock (d. 1923) countess Louise Mörner, heiress of Herrborum castle : Genealogics Mother of:

38 Count Carl Magnus Nils Pontus Stenbock (b.29 Sept. 1911) Greve Magnus Stenbock: Genealogics He reportedly died in 2007 without any descendants listed Karl Magnus Pontus Nils Graf von Stenbock. Cousin of:

u. Count Axel Edvard Knut Morner Lord of Bjorksund (1824-1911). Younger son of number 23, and younger brother of number 32 and of s. Greve Axel Edvard Knut Mörner, Lord of Björksund : Genealogics father of:

v. Count Carl ....n Axel Morner Lord of Bjorksund (1904-1977) Greve Nils Göran Axel Mörner, Lord of Helgö and Björksund : Genealogics Father of:

39. Countess Signe Marianna Sophie Morner, Countess Morner of Morlanda (b. 21 April 1935) Married Jonkheer Franz Hessel van Baerdt van Sminia (b. 1935) Signe Mariana Sophie, Grevinna Mörner af Morlanda : Genealogics Mother of:

Jonkheer Paul Nils van Baerdt van Sminia (b. 17 July 1962) only son. Jhr. Paul Nils van Baerdt van Sminia: Genealogics

I am not certain this is the most senior line of heirs of the Stenkil dynasty But it may be hoped that it is close to it.

Heirs of the Vasa dynasty Part Four, Heirs of King Erik XIV.

Post Number 41 in this thread traces a line of Illegitimate heirs of King Erik XIV since he has no legitimate descendants at the present. It traces the line of heirs down to someone living today, 16. Rolf Fredrik Adelborg (b. 1955) Only child Rolf Fredrik Adelborg: Genealogics .

but it says:

However, Sofia Rytter (d. 1668) might not be the older daughter of her mother, which means that the heir of her sister could be the heir of King Erik XIV.

So here is the alternate line of descent:

4. Field Marshall Aake Hendriksson Tott (1598-1640). Oldest son. Field Marshal Aake Henrikinpoika Tott, Lord of Sjundby : Genealogics Father of:

5. Field Marshall Count Claes Tott, 1st Count of Karleborg (1630-1674). The last descendant of number 3, Sigrid of Sweden (1566-1633) and of her mother Karin Mansdotter. Cousin of:

a. Virginia Eriksdotter (1559-1633), oldest illegitimate daughter of King Erik XIV (1533-1577) and Agda Petterintytar. Married Hakon Knutsson Hand (d. 1595/96). Virginia Eriksdotter: Genealogics Mother of:

b. Karin Hakonsodtter Hand (b. c. 1587). Married Johann Henriksson Rytter, 1st Lord of Levene (1585-1644) Karin Håkonsdotter Hand: Genealogics Mother of:

6. Virginia Johansdotter Rytter (d. 1688), possibly the older daughter. Married Goran Stierna (c. 1611-1652) Virginia Johansdotter Rytter: Genealogics Mother of:

7. Goran Goransson Stierna (d. 1677) Only son. Göran Göransson Stierna: Genealogics Father of:

8. Maria Elisabeth Goransdotter Stierna (d. 1732) Only child. Married Anders Leijonflycht. Mother of:

9. Joran Magnus Andersson Leijonflycht (1704-1759) Only child. Maria Elisabeth Göransdotter Stierna: Genealogics Father of:

10. Helena Joransdotter Leijonflycht (1735-1804) Only child. Married Nils ____. Helena Jöransdotter Leijonflycht: Genealogics Mother of:

11. Jonas Nilsson (1774-1805) Only child. Jonas Nilsson: Genealogics Father of:

12. Maria Jonasdotter (b. 1800). Only child. Married Bengt _____. Maria Jonasdotter: Genealogics Mother of:

13. Anna Stina Bengtsdotter (b. 1823) Only child. Married Peter _____. Anna Stina Bengtsdotter: Genealogics Mother of:

14. Emily Peterson (1849-1918) Only child. Emily Peterson: Genealogics Mother of:

15. Emily Bayfield (1879-1966). Only Child. Emily Bayfield: Genealogics Mother of:

16. Listed as "private" in Genealogics.

I note that number 7, Goran Goransson Stierna (d. 1677), had a sister with descendants to the present. So here is that line of descent:

7. Kristina Stierna (d. before 1687) Married Bengt Hierta (1638-1698) http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00611911&tree=LEO Mother of:

8. Katarina Hierta (d. 1722) Only child. Married Hans Silfversward (1664-1717). http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00611913&tree=LEO Mother of:

9. Lars Silfversward (1691-1739) Only child. http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00611914&tree=LEO Father of:

10. Gustav Georg Silfversward (1739-1808) Only child. http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00611916&tree=LEO Father of:

11. Isak Sebastian Silfversward (1789-1863) Only child. http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00611918&tree=LEO Father of:

12.Konrad Georg Silfversward (1823-1896) Only child. http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00611920&tree=LEO Father of:

13. Maria Emilia Gunnilla Silfversward (1865-1908) Only child. Married Oskar Fredrik Mascoll Silfverstolpe (1856-1927) http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00611903&tree=LEO Mother of:

14. Ebba Augusta Charlotta Mascoll Silfverstolpe (1892-1974) Only child. Married John Archibald Robert Montgomery-Cederhielm (1881-1957) http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00611891&tree=LEO Mother of:

15. John Richard Oscar Robert Montgomery-Cederhielm (1917-1994) Only child. http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00611892&tree=LEO Father of:

16. John Richard Robert Carl Montgomery-Cederhielm (born 21 July 1948) Only child. http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00611884&tree=LEO Father of:

Robert William Carl Fredrik Montgomery-Cederhielm (Born 27 May 1971) Only child. http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00611884&tree=LEO

So if Sofia Rytter (d. 1668) was the older sister in her family, the heir of Erik XIV separate from the heirs of his brothers would be Rolf Fredrik Adelborg (b. 1955). But if Virginia Johansdotter Rytter (d. 1688) was the older sister, the heir of Erik XIV would be the heir of Emily Bayfield (1879-1966), and if the descendants of Emily Bayfield have died out, the heir would be John Richard Robert Carl Montgomery-Cederhielm (born 21 July 1948).

Heirs of "extra" & little known Swedish kings.

Since the reign of Erik the Victorious (reigned about 970 to about 995) the first fully historical king of Sweden, there have been a few little known and mysterious Swedish monarchs who might be considered "extra" or not part of the main branches of the various dynasties..

King Stenkil Ragnvaldsson died in 1066 and was followed by Erik and Erik, two rival claimants of the Swedish throne, who were both killed in the civil war. Their rival claims to the throne are unknown, and might have included being related in various ways to previous monarchs. Since succeeding monarchs were allegedly related to King Stenkil Ragnvaldsson and/or to the previous kings of the House of Munso, it is quite possible that those later kings and their heirs were also related to Erik and/or Erik. But since those relationships are unknown, there is no way of guessing which heirs of later Swedish kings were more closely related to Erik than to Erik, I mean to the other Erik. So there is no way of telling who should be considered the present day heir of either Erik.

But a writer of historical fiction could imagine anything they want about the families and heirs of Erik and Erik. A writer could make one Erik the rightful heir of defeated king Styrbjorn the Strong and the other Erik the rightful heir of Erik the Victorious who deposed him. Or maybe one Erik could be the rightful heir of Ingiald Illrada and the other Erik the rightful heir of his enemy Ivar Vidfamne. During parts of the 12th and 13th centuries the dynasties of Sverker I and Saint Erik were rivals, alternating on the Swedish throne, and a writer could describe Sverker I as the heir of Erik and Saint Erik as the heir of the other Erik.

Anund Gardske was reportedly a king of Sweden about 1070. He apparently came from Kievian Rus, and might possibly have been related in some way to previous and/or succeeding kings. It is said that he was deposed for refusing to carry out public sacrifices to pagan gods, and rejoiced for being deposed on account of his Christianity. It has been suggested that Anund Gardske was identical with king Inge I the Elder, who was also a Christian deposed by pagans, though Inge later regained his throne. If that was the case, the heir of Anund Gardske would be Countess Signe Marianna Sophie Morner, Countess Morner of Morlanda (b. 21 April 1935). But if Anund Gardske was not King Inge I there is no clue to who his present heir would be.

Hakon the Red ruled part or all of medieval Sweden about that time, probably after King Stenkil Ragnvaldsson but before him in some sources. It has been suggested that King Hakon the Red and King Blot-Sweyn were the same person. There is no evidence of who the heirs of King Hakon the Red would be, unless he really was King Blot-Sweyn.

King Blot-Sweyn was elected as king about 1084 when King Inge the Elder was deposed by a pagan reaction. He was assassinated a few years later and Inge regained the throne. Blot-Sweyn allegedly had a daughter named Cecilia who married a man named Jedvard, who was the father of King Erik IX the Saint, who obviously was a christian unlike his mother's father. So if Erik IX really was the only recorded grandchild of Blot-Sweyn, the heirs of the Dynasty of Saint Erik would also be the heirs of the dynasty of Blot-Sweyn. Heirs of the dynasty of St. Erik are discussed in post # 9 on page 1 of this thread.

If Saint Erik IX was not descended from Blot-Sweyn, Blot-Sweyn's heirs would have to be traced through his sister Maer, who was the second wife of king Inge I, who was deposed by Blot-Sweyn and who later killed Blot-Sweyn. Inge's children were supposedly the children of his first wife Helena and not of Maer, but one could suppose that they acquired rights to be the heirs of Blot-Sweyn from their stepmother Maer. According to posts numbers 42, 43, and 48 on page 5 of this thread, the heirs of king Inge I and the dynasty of Stenkil go down to Countess Signe Marianna Sophie Morner, Countess Morner of Morlanda (b. 21 April 1935).

A man named Ragnvald called Knaphovde was king of part or all of Sweden sometime in the 1120s or 1130s, believed to have been after Inge II the Younger and before Magnus I. It has been suggested that Ragnvald Knaphovde was identical with King Inge I the Elder's son Ragnvald, in which case his heir would be Countess Signe Marianna Sophie Morner, Countess Morner of Morlanda (b. 21 April 1935). If Ragnvald Knaphovde was not identical with Ragnvald son of king Inge I the Elder there would be no clue who his present day heir is.

King Magnus I the Strong was the son of King Nils of Denmark and his wife Margaret, a daughter of King Inge I the Elder of Sweden. The descendants of Magnus I seem to have died out about 1236. Thus his heirs would have to be the heirs of his mother's father, King Inge I of Sweden, and thus his present heir would be Countess Signe Marianna Sophie Morner, Countess Morner of Morlanda (b. 21 April 1935).

King Magnus II of Sweden was a son of the Danish prince Hendrik and Ingrid daughter of Ragnvald son of King Igne I of Sweden. Since there are no descendants of the marriage of King Magnus II's parents his heirs are descended from another marriage of his mother and his present heir is Countess Signe Marianna Sophie Morner, Countess Morner of Morlanda (b. 21 April 1935).

King Canute II of Sweden (ruled 1229-1234) was probably a great grandson of King Saint Erik IX and 2nd cousin of King Erik XI. Canute's sons Holmger and Philip were killed in 1248 and 1251. He has no other children or siblings listed so it looks like his closest heirs are the heirs of the dynasty of Saint Erik, discussed in post # 9 on page 1 of this thread.

I think that these are all the "extra" kings of Sweden not previously discussed.

So according to the data in Genealogics, the present heir of Svantepolk Knutsson Lord of Viby and his wife Benedikte Sunnadotter of Ymseborg is Baron Carl-Johan Barnekow (born 25 April 1985). Note that the heirs from # 16 Baroness Sigrid Gyllenstierna (1639-1700) to v. Baroness Eva Agatha Stanilas Wrede af Elima (1813-97) are the same as the heirs from # 10. Sigrid Gyllenstierna at Lundholm (1639-1700) to # 18. Eva Agatha Stanilas Wrede af Elima (1813-97) in post # 38, Heirs of King Charles II or VIII of Sweden., in page number 4 of this thread. And not that he sources I used for the two threads disagree about the later heirs, this post giving the present heir as Baron Carl-Johan Barnekow (born 25 April 1985) while post # 38 gives the heir as an unidentified descendant of Carl Knut Rudolf Abraham Leijonhufved (1912-88).

Heirs of Svantepolk Knutsson Lord of Viby and his Wife Benedikte Sunnadotter of Ymseborg Part Three.

Svantepolk Knutsson Lord of Viby and his wife Benedikte Sunnadotter of Ymseborg were descended from and heirs of various kings and dynasties of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.

In posts numbers 51 and 52 of this thread I traced the heirs of Svantepolk Knutsson Lord of Viby and his wife Benedikte Sunnadotter of Ymseborg through their daughter Ingeborg's first marriage. In this post I will try tracing their heirs through their daughter Ingrid. Assuming that children are listed in birth order in the Genealogics site Ingrid would be the third born daughter of the family, but I will try tracing her heirs just in case she was the eldest. I will assume that the children in each family are listed in order of birth, up to the era when their individual birth dates are given.

Heirs of Svantepolk Knutsson Lord of Viby and his Wife Benedikte Sunnadotter of Ymseborg Part Four.

Heirs through their daughter Ingrid continued from post number 53.

However, Genealogics doesn't include any descendants of 14. Birgitta Kristiernsdotter Vasa (before 1494-after 1566). According to Genealogics, the line of heirs continues with:

d. Knight Erik Johanson Vasa (1470-1520) knight Erik Johanson till Rydboholm, Castellan of Kastelholma, lord of Rydboholm manor, heir of Old Sture : Genealogics Father of:

13. Gustaf Eriksson Vasa. King of Sweden 1523-60. In post number 11 on page 2 of this thread the heirs of Gustaf I Vasa are traced down to Prince Andrew Andreevich (born 1923), a Romanov:

14. King Erik XIV (1533-1577) oldest son. He had several illegitimate children and finally married the low born Karin Mansdotter. He was deposed in 1568 and probably poisoned in 1577. Father of:

15. Prince Gustav of Sweden (1528-1607. Legitimated when his parents were married and present at the marriage and coronation. Died in Russia in 1607. No known children. Brother of:

16. Princess Sigrid of Sweden (1566-1633). Present at the wedding and coronation of her parents. Married first 1597 Hendrik Klasson Tott (d. 1603). Mother of:

17. Field Marshall Ake Hendriksson Tott (1598-1640). He had two sons, and there is a high probability that he could have traceable heirs to this day.

Ignoring for the moment the possible heirs of King Erik XIV which may be difficult to trace with my sources, King Erik XIV was deposed by his younger half brother Johann Duke of Finland.

14. King Johann III of Sweden (1537-92) Younger half Brother of Erik XIV. Father of:

15. King Sigismund of Sweden (1566-1632) King of Poland 1587, King of Sweden 1592-99. Father of:

16. Wladyslaw IV of Poland (1595-1648) Now surviving legitimate children. Half brother of:

17. KIng John II Casimir of Poland (1609-72) no surviving children.

As near as I can tell he was the last surviving descendant of King Sigismund, except for Ladislaus Konstantin Vasa (1635?-1698) Count of Wasenau, illegitimate son of Wlyadysalw IV. I don't know if he had any descendants.

King Johann III of Sweden (1537-92) had an illegitimate daughter Sofia who married Pontus De la Garde. The current head of the De la Garde family is Carl Gustaf De la Garde (born 1946), but I don't know if he is the senior descendant and heir of the marriage of Sofia with Pontus De la Garde. De la Gardie - Wikipedia

King Sigismund was deposed in Sweden and his half uncle Carl became King of Sweden.

14. King Charles XI (1550-1611) Youngest child of Gustaf I. Father of:

15. King Gustaf II Adolf (1594-1632) Father of:

16. Queen Christina (1626-1689) Abdicated 1654. Childless. Cousin of:

17. King Charles X Gustaf (1622-60). Son of Johann Kasimir Pfalzgraf of Zweibruken and Princess Katarina of Sweden, daughter of Charles XI. Father of:

18. King Charles XI (1655-97). Father of:

19. King Charles XII (1682-1718). Childless.

d. Ulrika Elonora (1688-1741). Sister of King Charles XII. Queen Regent of Sweden 1718-20, Queen Consort of Sweden 1720-41. abdicated 1720 in favor of her husband Frederick Landragve of Hesse-Cassel 1730-51, Prince consort of Sweden 1718-20, King Frederick I of Sweden 1720-51. Ulrike Elonora and Fredrick had no children. Sister of:

e. Princess Hedwig Sophie Auguste of Sweden (1681-1708), oldest sister of King Charles XII. Married Duke Friedrich IV of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp. Mother of:

20. Karl Friederich (1700-39) Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp. Married Grand Duchess Ana Petrovna of Russia (1708-28) older daughter of Peter the Great.

21. Karl Peter Ulrich (1728-62). Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp 1739. Briefly proclaimed King of Finland in 1742. Chosen as heir to the thrones of both Sweden and Russia in 1742 and his claim to Sweden was renounced in his name. Became Tsar Peter III in 1762 and deposed by his wife Catherine II the Great. Father of:

22. Paul I (1754-1801) Tsar of Russia 1796-1801. Father of:

23. Alexander I (1777-1825). No surviving children. Brother of:

24. Grand Duke Constantine. (1779-1831) Made a morganic marriage. Secretly renounced the Russian throne in 1823. No children. Brother of:

25. Tsar Nicholas I (1796-1855) Father of:

26. Tsar Alexander II (1818-1881) Father of:

27. Tsar Alexander III (1845-94) Father of:

28. Tsar Nicholas II (1868-1918) Father of:

29. Alexei (1904-18). Probably survived his father by a few seconds or minutes. Brother of:

[Any of the daughters of Nicholas II who might have survived their brother for seconds or minutes]

30. George, Count Braslov (1910-31). Cousin of Alexei, son of the morganic marriage of Grand Duke Michael (1878-1818) son of Tsar Alexander III. Childless. Nephew of:

31. Grand Duchess Xena Alexandrovna of Russia (1875-1960). Older daughter of Tsar Alexander III. Married Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailavich (1866-1933), son of Grand Duke Michael, son of Nicholas I. Mother of:

32. Prince Andrei Alexandrovich (1897-1981) Father of:

33. Prince Michael Andreevich (1920-2008). Childless. Brother of:

34. Prince Andrew Andreevich (born 1923). Claims to be head of the Romanov dynasty. Father of:

Prince Alexis Andreevich (born 1953) heir to his father.

So Prince Andrew Andreevich born in 1923 is the genealogical heir according to male preference primogeniture of King Gustaf I Vasa. The data in Genealogics indicates that King Gustaf I Vasa was the genealogical heir of Ingrid Svantepolksdoter of Viby (c. 1268-after 1350) the possibly oldest daughter Svantepolk Knutsson Lord of Viby and his wife Benedikte Sunnadotter of Ymseborg, while the data in other sources indicates there was a senior branch of descendants whose heir is an unnamed descendant of Rune T. Johansson (1920s-2010s).

It is really Annoying when the available sources disagree so much.

23. Dorothy Altea Couchman (b. 1985). Only child. Dorothy Altea Couchman: Genealogics

I have to say this is an odd lineage. There are 14 generations in a row with only one child listed. That is perfectly possibly but statistically very improbable. Thus it seems likely that somewhere along the line someone didn't bother to copy the names of eachand every sibling in each generation but only copied the name of the one sibling that was the ancestor of someone, perhaps this Dorothy Altea Couchman. I strongly suspect that many of those 14 gn enerations of persons who seem to be only children actually had older or younger brothers or sisters. And I suspect that a few of them had older brothers or sisters who have descendants to present whose claim to be the heirs of Ingegerd Svantepolksdotter of Viby, the possibly oldest daughter of Svantepolk Knutsson Lord of Viby and his wife Benedikte Sunnadotter of Ymseborg, are senior and superior to those of Dorothy Altea Couchman (b. 1985).

Heirs of the Holstein-Gottorp and Bernadotte Dynasties again.

As is well known, the genealogically rightful heir of the Holstein-Gottorp dynasty of Sweden was King Gustaf IV Adolf who was deposed in 1809 in favor of his childless elderly uncle King Charles XIII. King Charles XIII adopted as his crown Prince and heir the French field Marshal Jean Bernadotte who became King of Charles XIV John of Sweden, founding the present Bernadotte dynasty.

And in 1881 Princess Victoria of Baden (1862-1930) married the future King Gustav V of Sweden (1858-1950). The descendants of the deposed King Gustaf IV Adolf in the agnatic (male only) line died out, so in Victoria of Baden eventually became the heir of the deposed King Gustaf IV Adolf according to the most common inheritance rule, male preference primogeniture, in 1928. And so the present King of Sweden, King Carl XVI Gustaf (born 1946) can be considered the rightful heir both of the deposed King Gustaf IV Adolf and of the usurping King Charles XIII, and the claims of the Holstein-Gottorp and bernadotte dynasties can be considered to be united.

But the present King Carl XVI Gustaf's only son Prince Carl Philip (b. 1979) is the rightful future heir of the Bernadotte Dynasty according the original succession law of that dynasty, agnatic (male only) primogeniture, and the rightful future heir of the Holstein-Gottorp Dynasty by male preference primogeniture. His older sister Victoria (born 1977) would be the rightful heir of Sweden according to the hypothetical female preference or female only succession laws, which have never been in effect in Sweden or Europe, so we don't have to worry about them. But in 1980 the succession law in Sweden was changed to absolute primogeniture, where the oldest child inherits regardless of gender, thus making Victoria the crown princess.

So unless one considers changing the succession law for the present dynasty automatically changes the succession rules for all previous dynasties, Prince Carl Philip is the future rightful heir of the Holstein-Gottorp Dynasty, and the claims of the Holstein-Gottorp and Bernadotte dynasties will be separated when King Carl XVI Gustaf dies, until some hypothetical future time when the heirs of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Carl Philip might marry.

But the thought occurred to me that hypothetical supporters of the deposed King Gustaf IV Adolf wouldn't want his heirs to be joined with the heirs of King Christian XIII who replaced him.

So the line of heirs of the Holstein-gottorp dynasty of Swedish kings would be:

1. Adolph Frederick of Holstein Gottorp (I710-71) King of Sweden 1751-71. Father of:

2. King Gustav III (1746-92) Father of:

3. King Gustav IV Adolf (1778-1837) Deposed in 1809. Father of:

4. Gustav (1799-1877) Prince of Vasa. Father of:

5. Carola of Vasa (1833-1907) married King Albert I of Saxony. Childless. Cousin of:

6. Frederick II, Grand Duke of Baden (1857-1928). Son of Frederick I, Grand Duke of Baden (1826-1907), son of Leopold I (1790-1852) Grand duke of Baden and his wife Princess Sophie of Sweden (1801-65), oldest daughter of King Gustav IV Adolf. No surviving children. Brother of:

7. Victoria of Baden (1862-1930), only adult sibling of Fredrick II. Married the future King Gustav V of Sweden (1858-1950) in 1881. Once Victoria died in 1930 the heir to the Hostein-Gottorp kings of Sweden would not be her son, the future King Gustaf VI Adolf, because he was also descended from, and the heir of, the Bernadotte Dynasty. Victoria was the only child of her farther, Grand Duke Frederick I of Baden, to have children. Her father, Frederick I, Grand Duke of Baden (1826-1907) had a next older brother, Prince Wilhelm of Baden (1829-1897), whose only son and heir was Prince Maximilian of Baden (1867-1929), who was the father of:

8. Berthold, Margrave of Baden (1906-63), only son & heir of Prince Maximilian. Father of:

9. Maximilian, Margrave of Baden (born 1933).

And in this thread - Who is Swedens rightful king considering the coup d'etat of 1809 deposed the then rightful king? - it is suggested that perhaps the deposed King Gustaf IV Adolf and all his descendants were forever barred from the Swedish throne, which might imply that once the heir of Charles XIII was also the heir of the deposed King Gustaf IV Adolf they could no longer be the rightful heir of King Charles XIII. Thus some might suggest that the right to be the heir of King Charles XIII and of the Bernadotte Dynasty is restricted to those who are not even descended from the deposed King Gustaf IV Adolf, let alone are his heirs.

This is the line of the Bernadotte kings of Sweden:

1. King Charles XIV of Sweden & III of Norway (1763-1844). Father of:

2. King Oscar I of Sweden & Norway (1799-1859) Father of:

3. King Charles XV of Sweden & Iv of Norway (1826-72). Father of:

4. Louise (1851-1926) Only child. Married King Frederick VIII of Denmark (1843-1912). She was the ancestor of the royal family of Denmark down to the present. But in 1872 the succession in Sweden was agnatic (male only) succession, so King Charles XV's younger brother became the new king.

4. King Oscar II (1829-1907) of Sweden 1872-1907 and Norway 1872-1905. Father of:

5. King Gustaf V (1858-1950) of Sweden. But since King Gustaf V of Sweden married the eventual heiress of the deposed King Gustaf IV Adolf, some might argue that their children could not be the rightful heirs of the Bernadotte dynasty. King Gustaf V had three younger brothers. The second Brother, Prince Oscar, Duke of Gotland (1859-1953), made an unequel marriage and was excluded from the royal family, becoming Count of Wisborg.

6. Prince Oscar Bernadotte (1859-1953) excluded along with his descendants from inheriting the throne. The next brother was Prince Carl, Duke of Vastergotland (1861-1951) father of a son who made unequal marriages and of three daughters. The fourth brother never married. And that seems to eliminate agnatic members of the House of Bernadotte who made equal marriages and were not descended from King Gustaf V and Victoria of Baden. Then the choice would seem to be between female line descendants and the agnatic descendants of unequal marriages.

7. Princess Margaretha of Sweden (1899-1977) oldest daughter of Prince Carl, Duke of Vastergotland (1861-1951). She married Prince Axel of Denmark (1888-1964). Mother of:

8. Prince George Vlademar of Denmark (1920-1986). No children. Brother of:

9. Count Fleming of Rosenborg (1922-2002). He made an unequal marriage and his children would not be considered eligible for the Swedish or Danish thrones.

10. KIng Harald V of Norway (born 1937) the only son of Princess Martha of Sweden (1901-1954), next oldest daughter of Prince Carl, Duke of Vastergotland (1861-1951).

Or if it is considered better for the Swedish throne to pass through agnatic (male only) lines even through unequal marriages, the succession would be:

6. Prince Oscar Bernadotte (1859-1953) excluded along with his descendants from inheriting the throne. Count Bernadotte of Wisborg. Father of:

7. Carl Oscar Bernadotte (1890-1977), Count Bernadotte of Wisborg. Older son. Father of:

8. Oscar Carl Bernadotte (b. 1921), Count Bernadotte of Wisborg. Only son. Father of:

9. Carl Ludwig Bernadotte (b. 1955), Count Bernadotte of Wisborg. Family tree of Oscar Carl August BERNADOTTE .

I believe that Count Oscar Carl Bernadotte (b. 1921), die din 2018.

As far as the mind can reach
What do you think of the absolute primogeniture in 1980? This is still well within the time frame.
Since monarchs are mostly mascots today, their personal aptitudes do not matter that much anymore.

Well if I was a powerful monarch I would consider giving any person who was ennobled several titles.

Like titles inherited byprimogeniture (oldest inherits):

1. A title to be inherited by agnatic (male only) primogeniture.

2. A title to be inherited by male preference primogeniture, where a daughter would inherit if she didn't have brothers.

3. A title to be inherited by absolute primogeniture, where the oldest child, regardless of gender, inherits.

4. A title to be inherited by female preference primogeniture, where a son would inherit if he didn't have sisters.

5. A title to be inherited by female only primogeniture.

And maybe some to be inherited by ultimogeniture (youngest inherits):

1. A title to be inherited by agnatic (male only) ultimogeniture.

2. A title to be inherited by male preference ultimogeniture, where a daughter would inherit if she didn't have brothers.

3. A title to be inherited by absolute ultimogeniture, where the youngest child, regardless of gender, inherits.

4. A title to be inherited by female preference ultimogeniture, where a son would inherit if he didn't have sisters.

5. A title to be inherited by female only ultimogeniture.

Certainly if a male is the original grantee of a noble title he should have a title to pass to his agnatic heirs as well as a title to pass to his heirs by male preference primogeniture. And if a female is the original grantee of a noble title she should have a title to pass to her female only heirs as well as a title to pass to her heirs by female preference primogeniture.

Of course a kingdom shouldn't be divided among multiple heirs.

And if I was a powerful monarch I would consider requiring that two investment funds be created for each title. One to be passed down to the heirs of the titles, and one to be passed down to all the descendants of the original grantee who would periodically elect members of the family & outsiders to mange the investments and decide how to spend the income. Thus the head of the family might not be as much richer than the other members as is often the case.

And of course someone writing about a fictional aristocracy could use such ideas in their story.

And obviously in fiction a powerful overlord, a king of kings, or king of kings of kings, or emperor, might divide each kingdom in their realm into several smaller kingdoms to be inherited by different succession rules, so that over time each of those smaller kingdoms will be inherited by a different descendant of the original king. And if the members of the royal families marry only members of other royal families, a lot of kings will inherit small kingdoms that were original parts of different large kingdoms, and in many cases will not border their other kingdoms, making revolt harder. Possibly there could be a rule against marrying royalty of bordering kingdoms.

But of course in real life a kingdom won't be divided among several hairs of the king if the population is strongly patriotic & committed to keeping the kingdom united, so a king will have to have a single heir selected by a single succession rule, however sensible or not that succession rule may be, instead of multiple heirs selected by multiple succession rules.

I note that when the succession law was changed to absolute primogeniture in Sweden in 1980 the heir to the throne was changed from Prince Carl Philip to his older sister Princess Victoria. But in Britain when the succession law was changed to absolute primogeniture it only affected members of the royal family who would be born after the law was passed. And it seems to me that if the monarch doesn't have much or any power and they aren't changing the succession law because they are afraid of what the present heir might do if they gained the throne, there is no reason to take the heirship away from the present holder.
