Who committed worse war crimes? The Nazis against the Russian people, military and civilians? Or the Japanese against the Chinese, military and civilians? Do try to keep it limited to this.

In this comparison numbers don't matter. Only methods and reasons matter.

Japanese, the Nazi's were ruthless killers but to them it was a job that needed to be done. Where as the Japanese saw it as a perverse game. Had the Japanese industrialised murder like the Nazi's then they would've killed far more. As it was they did enough damage with the rifle and bayonet.

Dunno, they both had a taste for scientific testing and dissection of live subjects but the Japanese did have more of a taste for decapitation, bayoneting prisoners and bamboo shoots under the fingernails as well as mass .....

Definitely trending towards the Japanese for individual cruelty here.

The Nazis in Russia. There, the despicable science of eugenics was applied and the Russians were butchered merely because they were Slavs, allegedly inferior to Arrian Germans in the Nazi mindset.

I can't wait to see if anyone chooses the fourth option. Anyone who does - I challenge you to reveal yourself and give your reasoning.

I chose the Japanese, not so much because I have done a lot of research on this, but because people need to be aware that they did some horrendous things to Chinese soldiers, prisoners, and civilians.

Voted that both were equally bad which may well be incorrect, its very difficult to compare such crimes to each other, the Japanese could seem to be needlessly cruel but I find the 'industrialisation' of slaughter by the Nazi's to be particularly chilling.

I forget his name but one of the commanders of a death camp at his trial claimed that he allowed no cruelty (debatable!) in the process of genocide. While I am not sure he was correct that would seem to be worse --- turning a genocide intithe 'disposal' of men, women and children in an industrial process seems particularly bad.

War isn't a game, peoples lives are not a score. Every single death represents a personal tragedy to someone.

The Germans. The Japanese just killed like your typical overzealous barbarians. The Germans are much scarier because of the mindset that drove them to kill.

In this case the nazi were worse. The western russians welcomed the germans as conquerors and would have allowed them to use the area to defeat uncle joe and his hoard. There was no fighting back. The Japanese met armed resistance when they started making their way through China. Both were horrendous acts of evil but the one thing I mentioned puts the nazi over the top.

Only Russians, no Jews, Poles, Greeks or Eastern European nationals? Seems a strange question really, leaving out 6 million people. Since I have been to the .... of Nanking Memorial (a large underground museum) in Nanjing, I would have to say the Japanese.

They managed to convert humans into logs of wood, at least in their own minds. Froze arms and then shattered them off, then the leg and so on to see how long the men could stay alive without limbs. They made both a ritual and a competition out of decapitation, while the nazis shot their prisoners in the back of the head. Sadly many of the most ruthless Japanese war criminals who claimed scientific protection were given reprieves in return for their horrendous findings. There are many more cruelties that I won't go into but when I was growing up my mother told me that propaganda around that time had the Japanese soldiers bayonetting Chinese babies and throwing them into the air. She taught me not to believe in propaganda, but when I went to Nanjing last year I found evidence that it was true. So I went the full circle of denying to myself that the Japanese did such things, to seeing (along with so much other) evidence of the same atrocities exposed during the 1940s.

Amazing what the odd Toyota plant set up in your state will do to the truth.

as some other members have said, individual the japanese were worse as they did it out of their own free will most of the time while the germans were ordered to do it for the most part, i can't decide but its easier to say the nazies as their actions are better documented then the japanese in china, perhaps these picture will help in deciding WARNING NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!

first the nazies-
