In the city where i am from (Lahore) somewhere in February to March, the arrival of spring is celebrated by a festival called Jashn e Baharan(also known as Basant). In this festival pretty the much the whole of the old Mughal city goes to their roof to fly kites. Its a mega free for all kite flying competition where everyone from the old to children and men to women are involved. Some pictures below.
Standard Kites
By Midday the "Battles" have begun (usually neighbours have big rivalries.
The festival continues well into the night. The bigger gatherings usually have traditional drum (dhol) players and each time they cut somebody elses kite the drums start playing and people start dancing.
Children at his age are mostly used as "kite runners". This one is ready for battle though it seems.
