So I was digging through some old boxes at my parents house and found this book. Service afloat, during the war between the states. It's admiral Semmes. But the real interesting thing to me is the personal note from the receivers father dated in 1869. Anyone ever Read this book or have any other similar finds?

As a lover and collector of old books I have to say that that is an amazing find! I have several older books with names signed in much the same style. My favorite was actually a gift from my girlfriend who found me a first edition biography about Napoleon, which was printed in 1830. Though that one has no written inscription. I find that old books that have been signed just seem that much more special. It makes me feel like I'm holding a piece of someone's history.

We have hundreds of books from before the civil war through the turn of the century. My families Plantation home in Mississippi is a treasure trove of them and I'm just now getting to go through them
