Accurate? Hardly. Even a quick Bing (or Google, if you prefer) search showed 4.2 million pages showing MLK, Jr was a Republican, and why he was. Included is a piece by his niece verifying this fact. Those were different times and political labels meant different things from those of today. It is a tribute to him at any rate that both 'sides' wish to claim him. But quite correctly and for the right reasons, he was Republican.

Did you not read the article??? It said that MLK was a republican without strong political affiliations. The same thing I said on the first page of this very thread. You don't need a bing or google search to find that.... You seem to be arguing with yourself.

In fact, here's one of my two posts basically stating what your argument is here:

Nope. Southern Democrats were still a very much racist organization during the Civil Rights Movement. Look up the party register during the 60's and you'll see a few names jump out at you.;)

That was in response to Andy's statement that he believed MLK was a democrat.

Yes, I read the entire article and found it lacking the accuracy you taut. I grew up down there, back then. This "accurate" article only seemed to want to muddy the fact that MLK was NOT a Democrat, southern Dixiecrat or otherwise.

IDK. I guess I was just able to grasp that the article was talking about MLK's ideology and not what was actually stamped on his party card....

Actually, I do have more information about Martin Luther King and I hope it can help in doing your essay. Martin Luther King is a well known, inspiring man, to all cultures of the world. King was and still is one of the most influential heroes. He faced many obstacles on his quest like jail and even assassination attempts. These reasons make Martin Luther King worthy enough of the title "hero."
