Did Hitler Really Fake His Death Multiple Times During WWII?

Someone told me that during WWII, Hitler faked his own death a few times, by using the corpses of officers that looked like him. The debate is, did Hitler really do this, and was his real death actually real?

With all the mass shootings we have, we can observe that it's not exactly uncommon for mass murderers to commit suicide before they can be caught. So I think it's real.

Why would Hitler want to fake his own death? What reason could he possibly have for this? Why would he want to dishearten the German people multiple times. If anything, he only had an incentive to fake assassination attempts in order to use them for propaganda. Also this should be in the European history sub-forum.

One reason to fake your own death would be to see who celebrated it.

Why is this in the America section... Hitler was German and never set foot on the North American continent.

I never heard anything of that kind and I very much doubt it. An official faking of his death would be the worst he could do. Nazi Germany was a Führer State. Without Hitler Nazism would have lost its core overnight and likely have fallen apart.

Faking assassinations wouldn't make sense either. Any news of an assassination attempt would damage the mantra of "Ein Reich - ein Volk - ein Führer". The 20th July plot couldn't be kept under the lid because the coup had occurred openly in central Berlin, Vienna, Prague, Paris and other places. In all these locations anti-Hitler-forces had seized key installations and arrested SS, SD and Gestapo personnell. Thus, that had to be dealt with on the PR front (Freisler's show trials come to mind). All other attempts were never made public.

Sorry, I didn't know this was the wrong forum. Germany does not come to my mind as European. Anyhow, I heard it on a show called " Ten Things You Didn't Know About: Adolf Hitler." That's why I asked, because I don't know.

Again, I apologize. I thought, WWII, Germany, Hitler, WWII is part of American History, thus Hitler is found in the American History Forum.

So thus for, her again, the history got it wrong, again. Just another reason why I want a time machine. Find out what REALLY went down!

No. At no point did Hitler ever fake his own death during WW2

and was his real death actually real?

Yes. There is no reason to doubt that his actual death was faked.

How odd. I think you'll find Germany - and German history is very European indeed. Germans would be horrified to think that people didn't think of them as European.

I didn't mean I didn't think of them as European, just that I think that some of their history, like Hitler and WWII, to be part of American history. But not the whole thing. And when I say "part of U.S. history", I mean just a little bit.

I think you need to read some good history books or watch some decent documentaries about WW2. I'm sure that our fellow members can recommend some. The World at War series made by British Television in the 1970's would be a good place to start. Lots of film footage and interviews with veterans, politicians and ordinary people from all the countries involved.

I've never heard of Hitler faking his death either. But i have read some place that he did employ a few doubles.

I've heard about that too. According to a documentary on I it was think the History Channel, one of Hitler's double was the man that the Soviets had found that they claimed was Hitler's half-burned body.

I heard that on a TV show once. I later Googled it, because I LOVE Google and don't know what I'd do without it, and found more information on it. He apparently had six dople gangers, and the Soviet's thought he was dead. They took his body in for an autopsy, but noticed he was wearing socks with holes in them. Why does the great Fuher have socks with holes? They thought. Surely a man as rich as him would have decent socks. Later, they compared Hitler's dentle records with the teeth of the man, and found that they didn't match. And, yes, even people like Adolf Hitler have to go to the dentist.
